XERF

Structural Skin Tightening

XERF is an advanced, non-invasive radiofrequency treatment designed to improve skin firmness, address mild to moderate laxity and support a more defined appearance without surgery, needles or significant downtime.

Using dual-frequency radiofrequency technology, XERF delivers controlled thermal energy to different tissue depths, stimulating collagen remodelling and supporting the skin's natural tightening response.

Its customizable treatment settings and integrated cooling technology allow us to deliver targeted energy while maintaining patient comfort and protecting the skin's surface.

Over time, the skin may appear firmer, smoother and more supported, with gradual improvements that complement your natural facial features.

How It Works.

The Science Behind XERF

XERF uses dual-frequency monopolar radiofrequency technology, combining 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz frequencies to deliver controlled thermal energy at different tissue depths.

Rather than targeting the skin's surface, radiofrequency energy generates heat within the tissue, producing a controlled thermal response that encourages collagen contraction and longer-term remodelling.

XERF incorporates three depth settings, allowing treatment to be customized according to the anatomical area and degree of correction required.

Its integrated cooling system helps protect the epidermis and maintain comfort while energy is delivered beneath the surface.

The treatment supports two complementary processes:

  • Immediate collagen contraction: Heating may produce an initial tightening response, although visible changes are often subtle.
  • Progressive collagen remodelling: Over the following weeks and months, the tissue responds to controlled thermal stimulation, supporting gradual improvements in skin firmness and elasticity.

Because XERF does not intentionally disrupt the skin's surface, treatment generally requires minimal recovery compared with ablative resurfacing procedures.

Why We Love It.

What Makes XERF Special

XERF offers a non-invasive approach to skin tightening that allows us to address early and moderate changes in firmness without needles, incisions or surface resurfacing.

Its dual-frequency technology and adjustable treatment depths provide flexibility when treating different areas of the face and neck.

We particularly appreciate its ability to support gradual, natural-looking improvements while allowing most patients to return to their usual activities shortly after treatment.

For patients beginning to notice changes in jawline definition, lower facial support or skin firmness, XERF provides an additional option within a personalized rejuvenation plan.

Rather than changing your facial features, the objective is to improve the quality and firmness of the existing tissue.

Where It Fits.

XERF is particularly suited to patients experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity who are looking for a non-invasive approach to tightening and rejuvenation.

Unlike resurfacing technologies such as eCO₂, LaseMD Ultra and Tixel, XERF primarily targets tissue firmness rather than pigmentation or surface texture.

It also differs from radiofrequency microneedling, such as Genius, because it delivers energy without inserting needles into the skin.

For patients whose primary concern is significant skin laxity, substantial excess skin or pronounced structural changes, non-invasive radiofrequency treatment may not provide the degree of correction they are seeking. Surgical options or other treatments may be more appropriate.

XERF can also be incorporated into a comprehensive treatment plan alongside resurfacing.

Treatment selection depends on whether the primary concern involves skin laxity, volume loss, surface texture or a combination of factors.

K Luxe.

K Luxe combines XERF and Lase MD Ultra to address skin firmness, pigmentation and overall skin quality in one personalized treatment plan.

XERF delivers controlled radiofrequency energy beneath the skin’s surface to support collagen remodelling and improve the appearance of skin laxity, while LaseMD Ultra uses fractional laser energy to target sun damage, uneven tone and textural irregularities.

Together, these complementary technologies allow us to address multiple signs of skin aging, and supporting a firmer, smoother and more radiant complexion. Treatment settings and sequencing are tailored to your skin, concerns and goals.

Your XERF Treatment.

A Closer Look at Your Treatment

Your appointment begins with an assessment of your skin, facial anatomy and treatment goals. Your nurse will review your medical history and determine the appropriate treatment areas and settings.

Once your skin has been cleansed and prepared, the XERF handpiece is applied systematically across the treatment area.
o Radiofrequency energy is delivered through the skin while integrated cooling helps maintain comfort and protect the surface.

Most patients describe the sensation as a gradual buildup of warmth, with periods of more noticeable heat as energy is delivered. Your nurse will monitor your comfort throughout treatment and adjust the settings when appropriate.

Topical numbing is generally not required.

At The Infirmary, appointments are approximately 90 minutes, including assessment, preparation and treatment. The actual treatment time varies depending on the areas being addressed.

Following treatment, the skin may appear mildly flushed or feel warm, but most patients can return to their usual activities shortly afterwards.

THE THINGS YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO KNOW.

Below are a few common details about our XERF treatments. Have a specific question? Reach out to us anytime and we'll be happy to help.

Is There Downtime?

XERF is considered a minimal-downtime treatment because it delivers radiofrequency energy without intentionally disrupting the skin's surface.

You may experience temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling or tenderness following treatment. These effects typically resolve within several hours to a few days.

Most patients can return to their usual activities immediately, although individual responses vary.

Does It Hurt?

XERF is designed with integrated cooling technology to improve comfort while delivering thermal energy beneath the skin.

Most patients describe the sensation as warmth that gradually intensifies during treatment. Some areas may feel hotter or more sensitive than others.

Topical numbing is generally not required, and your nurse will monitor your comfort throughout the procedure.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients notice an initial improvement in skin firmness shortly after treatment, although this response is typically subtle and may be temporary.

More meaningful improvements develop gradually as collagen remodelling occurs over the following weeks and months.

Changes may become more apparent around 8–12 weeks, with continued improvement possible thereafter.

Results vary depending on your skin, age-related changes, treatment parameters and individual response.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

At The Infirmary, we generally recommend a series of 2–3 treatments, spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, depending on your skin and goals.

The number of sessions required will depend on the degree of laxity, treatment areas and your individual response.

Maintenance treatments may be recommended to support your results as the natural aging process continues.

What Should I Avoid Afterwards?

Following XERF, your skin may be temporarily warm or sensitive.
§ Avoid excessive heat, including saunas, hot tubs and very hot showers, until any residual warmth or redness has resolved.

If your skin feels sensitive, temporarily avoid harsh exfoliants, retinoids and other potentially irritating products.

Continue gentle skincare, adequate hydration and daily sun protection.

Your nurse will provide individualized aftercare instructions based on your treatment and skin response.

Important Considerations

XERF uses radiofrequency energy to heat selected layers of tissue without intentionally removing the skin's surface. Although treatment generally involves limited downtime, it is not risk-free.

Certain implanted electronic devices, metal in or near the treatment area, active infections, impaired sensation and other medical conditions may affect treatment suitability. Your provider will review device-specific contraindications during consultation.

Temporary redness, swelling, warmth, tenderness or altered sensation may occur. Less commonly, excessive heating can result in burns, blistering, changes in pigmentation or unintended changes in the underlying tissue.

Results vary according to skin characteristics, degree of laxity and individual response. XERF cannot replace surgical treatment for significant skin laxity or excess tissue.

Your provider will assess your anatomy, medical history and treatment goals before determining whether radiofrequency treatment is appropriate.
