Microneedling

Small Needles. Bigger Plans For Your Skin

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment designed to improve skin texture, scarring and overall skin quality by working with the skin’s natural repair response.

At The Infirmary, we perform microneedling with Dermapen 4™, an advanced automated microneedling device that creates precise, controlled microchannels in the skin using ultrafine needles.

These micro-injuries initiate a natural wound-healing response associated with collagen and elastin production, gradually supporting smoother, more even-looking skin.

How It Works.

How Microneedling Works

Dermapen 4 uses a sterile, single-use 16-needle cartridge that moves vertically in and out of the skin, creating controlled fractional microchannels. Treatment depth and speed can be adjusted according to the area and treatment objective.

Those microchannels create a controlled injury while preserving the surrounding tissue, activating the skin’s natural repair process and supporting new collagen and elastin formation.

Unlike RF microneedling, traditional microneedling does not deliver heat or radiofrequency energy into the skin. The treatment response comes from the controlled mechanical needling itself.

Why We Love It.

Supporting Skin at Every Stage

Microneedling supports gradual improvements in skin texture, acne scarring and overall skin quality without heat or laser energy. Results develop over time as collagen remodels, making it a trust-the-process treatment.

Why Dermapen 4?

Not all microneedling devices are the same. Dermapen 4 uses 16 ultrafine, vertically moving needles with adjustable depth and speed for precise, customized treatments. Single-use cartridges and an anti-contamination system help maintain treatment safety and hygiene. The result is greater control over how your treatment is performed.

Where It Fits?

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling is our non-energy-based collagen induction treatment, making it a different option from both laser resurfacing and RF microneedling.

For patients primarily concerned with texture, enlarged-looking pores or acne scarring, it can provide meaningful skin renewal without introducing laser or radiofrequency energy.

When greater resurfacing or thermal stimulation is needed, treatments such as LaseMD Ultra, Tixel, Genius RF Microneedling or eCO₂ may be considered instead.

Microneedling can also be incorporated into a broader skin plan alongside professional skincare and other treatments, with appropriate spacing between procedures.

Your Microneedling Treatment

Your appointment begins with an assessment of your skin, concerns and relevant medical history.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared before treatment. A topical anesthetic will be used when appropriate to improve comfort.

Your nurse then moves the Dp4 systematically across the treatment area, adjusting treatment parameters according to the area and treatment goal.

Pinpoint bleeding and redness can occur depending on treatment depth and are expected responses with more intensive microneedling.

After treatment, appropriate post-procedure skincare is applied and you’ll receive instructions for caring for your skin while the barrier recovers.

The Things You Actually Want To Know.

Below are a few common details about our microneedling treatment. Have a specific question? Reach out to us anytime and we'll be happy to help.

Is there any downtime?

Expect some redness. Your skin may initially look and feel similar to a mild sunburn, with temporary swelling, sensitivity, dryness or tightness. Light flaking can also occur over the following days. The intensity and duration depend on the treatment performed and your individual response.

Does It Hurt?

Microneedling can feel prickly or uncomfortable, particularly over certain areas of the face or when deeper treatment settings are used. Topical anesthetic may be used when appropriate to make the treatment more comfortable.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients notice smoother or brighter-looking skin as the initial recovery settles, but collagen remodelling is gradual. Improvements in concerns such as texture and scarring develop over time rather than immediately.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

It depends on what we’re treating. A series is often recommended for concerns such as acne scarring and texture, with treatments typically spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to recover and remodel.

What should I avoid afterwards?

Avoid picking, scrubbing or exfoliating the skin. Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other potentially irritating active ingredients should be held until your skin has recovered. Avoid excessive heat, sweating and unnecessary sun exposure during early recovery, and follow the aftercare instructions provided by your nurse.
