Biostimulators.
Collagen Stimulation and Progressive Rejuvenation
Biostimulators are injectable treatments designed to encourage the body's natural collagen production, supporting gradual improvements in facial volume, structural support and overall tissue quality.
Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, which primarily provide volume through the placement of an injectable gel, biostimulators work by stimulating a tissue response that develops progressively over time.
At The Infirmary, we offer different biostimulatory formulations, allowing us to tailor treatment to your anatomy, concerns and goals. Depending on the product selected, treatment may provide immediate structural support, progressive collagen stimulation or a combination of both.
Our approach focuses on thoughtful treatment planning and gradual, natural-looking improvements rather than unnecessary volume.

How It Works.
The Science Behind Biostimulators
Biostimulators use injectable materials that encourage the body's natural collagen-producing processes.
At The Infirmary, our treatment options include formulations based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA).
These materials work differently.
PLLA stimulates a gradual tissue response that encourages collagen formation over time. Improvements develop progressively as the injected material is absorbed and new collagen contributes to tissue support.
CaHA consists of microspheres suspended within a gel carrier. The gel can provide an initial volumizing effect, while the microspheres support a longer-term collagen response as the carrier is gradually absorbed.
Although both formulations are considered biostimulatory, their immediate effects, treatment techniques, indications and expected outcomes differ.
Your provider will select the appropriate treatment based on your anatomy, the concern being addressed and the desired degree of correction.
Why We Love It.
A Different Approach to Rejuvenation
Biostimulators offer a different approach to injectable rejuvenation by supporting gradual changes in the skin's underlying structure.
They are particularly valuable when age-related volume loss or changes in tissue support contribute to the overall appearance of the face.
Rather than focusing exclusively on individual lines or folds, biostimulatory treatment allows us to consider broader structural changes and develop a plan that evolves over time.
We appreciate the flexibility of having different formulations available, each with distinct properties and clinical applications.
Our approach emphasizes appropriate patient selection, conservative treatment planning and realistic expectations.
The objective is not to create more volume indiscriminately, but to restore support where it is appropriate while respecting your natural facial proportions.
Where It Fits.
A Personalized Approach to Rejuvenation
Biostimulators may be considered when age-related volume loss or changes in facial support are contributing to a patient's concerns.
Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, which provide an immediate volumizing effect, biostimulators can produce progressive changes through collagen stimulation. Some formulations also provide immediate volume.
They may be incorporated into a comprehensive rejuvenation plan alongside other injectable treatments or energy-based technologies when clinically appropriate.
Biostimulators are not a substitute for surgical correction of significant skin laxity or excess tissue.
Treatment selection depends on your anatomy, the underlying cause of your concerns and the degree of improvement you hope to achieve.
Your Injectable Treatment.
Your appointment begins with a comprehensive assessment of your facial anatomy, medical history, previous injectable treatments and aesthetic goals.
Your provider will evaluate facial volume, tissue characteristics and structural changes before discussing the available treatment options.
Because different biostimulators have distinct properties and treatment protocols, product selection and injection technique will be tailored to your individual needs.
Once your treatment plan has been established and informed consent obtained, the skin is cleansed and prepared. The selected product is administered using a needle or cannula according to its intended use and the treatment area.
Comfort measures may include topical or local anaesthetic when appropriate.
Following treatment, you may experience temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising.
Your provider will review your expected recovery, any product-specific aftercare instructions and the recommended follow-up schedule before you leave.

The Things You Actually Want To Know.
Below are a few common details about our Biostimulator treatment. Have a specific question? Reach out to us anytime and we'll be happy to help.
Is there any downtime?
Biostimulatory treatments generally require limited time away from daily activities, although swelling and bruising should be anticipated.
You may experience redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising at the injection sites. These effects commonly improve over several days, although more noticeable swelling or bruising may take one to two weeks to resolve.
Recovery varies according to the product, treatment area and individual response.
Does It Hurt?
Some discomfort should be expected during treatment.
Most patients describe the injections as pressure, pinching or temporary stinging. Your provider may use topical or local anaesthetic to improve comfort when appropriate.
The experience will vary depending on the formulation, injection technique and area being treated.
How Long Do Results Last?
Biostimulatory treatments can provide long-lasting improvements, but results are not permanent.
The duration varies according to the formulation, treatment area, individual response and amount administered.
Some patients experience improvements lasting approximately two years or longer, although this is not guaranteed and should not be considered a universal treatment duration.
Your provider will discuss product-specific expectations during consultation.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments depends on the formulation selected, degree of volume loss, treatment goals and individual response.
Some patients may benefit from a single treatment, while others require a series of sessions spaced over several weeks or months.
We may recommend a staged approach to allow gradual improvement and reassessment before additional treatment.
What Should I Avoid Afterwards?
Aftercare varies depending on the biostimulator used.
We recommend avoiding makeup immediately following treatment to minimize irritation and contamination of the injection sites.
Makeup can generally be resumed once the injection sites have closed and the skin has settled, often the following day, according to your provider's instructions.
Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise and unnecessary pressure on the treated areas during the initial recovery period, according to your provider's instructions.
Certain formulations require a specific post-treatment massage protocol, while others do not. Your provider will explain whether massage is appropriate and demonstrate the correct technique when required.
Avoid additional facial treatments until your provider confirms they are appropriate.
You'll receive individualized aftercare instructions based on the product and treatment performed.
