Dermal Fillers.

Restoring Balance - Respecting Individuality

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore lost volume, soften selected facial folds and enhance facial contours. At The Infirmary use hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which provide structural support and volume in carefully selected areas of the face.

As we age, changes in facial fat, bone structure and skin quality can contribute to volume loss and changes in facial proportions. Dermal fillers offer a non-surgical option for addressing some of these changes while respecting your natural anatomy.

Our approach is guided by facial assessment, proportion and restraint. Rather than treating individual features in isolation, we consider how each area contributes to overall facial balance and develop a personalized plan that reflects your goals.

How It Works.

Restoring Balance & Definition

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found throughout the body, including the skin, where it contributes to hydration and tissue structure.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are formulated as injectable gels that provide volume and support within selected tissue planes. Different formulations have distinct properties, allowing your provider to select a product based on the anatomical area and desired treatment effect.

Once injected, the gel occupies space within the tissue, helping restore volume, support facial contours or soften selected folds.

Unlike neuromodulators, which temporarily reduce muscle activity, dermal fillers address concerns related primarily to volume and structure.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down over time, although the rate varies and some filler may persist considerably longer than the expected cosmetic result.

Why We Love It.

The Dermal Filler Advantage

Dermal fillers allow us to approach facial rejuvenation through a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, proportion and the structural changes that occur over time.

Their versatility makes them useful for addressing selected areas of volume loss, refining facial contours and supporting balance between different facial features.

What we value most is the ability to develop an individualized treatment plan rather than applying the same proportions or volumes to every patient.

At The Infirmary, our approach emphasizes thoughtful product selection, appropriate placement and conservative treatment planning. We assess the face as a whole, considering how changes in one area may influence the appearance of another.

The objective is not to create more volume everywhere. It is to determine where volume may be beneficial, where it may not be appropriate and when another treatment would better address your concerns.

Where It Fits.

Understanding Your Options

Dermal fillers are particularly relevant when facial volume loss or structural proportions contribute to the appearance of aging or when a patient wishes to enhance a specific feature.

For patients experiencing more generalized facial volume loss, a broader assessment may help determine whether dermal fillers, collagen-stimulating injectables or a combination of treatments is appropriate.

Significant skin laxity or excess tissue may require surgical assessment rather than additional filler.

Your Injectable Treatment.

Your appointment begins with a comprehensive assessment of your facial anatomy, medical history, previous injectable treatments and aesthetic goals.

Your provider will assess facial proportions, tissue characteristics and areas of volume loss while discussing the potential benefits, limitations, risks and alternatives to treatment.

Once an individualized plan has been established and informed consent obtained, the skin is cleansed and prepared. Dermal filler is then administered using a needle or cannula, depending on the area and technique selected.

Comfort measures may include topical anaesthetic, local anaesthetic or a filler formulation containing lidocaine, when appropriate.

Treatment duration varies according to the number of areas being addressed and the complexity of the procedure.

Following treatment, you may experience temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising. Your provider will review your expected recovery, warning signs and individualized aftercare instructions before you leave.

The Things You Actually Want To Know.

Below are a few common details about our Dermal fillers treatment. Have a specific question? Reach out to us anytime and we'll be happy to help.

Is there any downtime?

Dermal fillers generally require limited time away from everyday activities, although swelling and bruising should be anticipated.

Mild to moderate swelling, tenderness and bruising are common during the first several days. Certain areas, particularly the lips, may experience more noticeable swelling.

Most initial swelling improves within approximately one to two weeks, although residual swelling and tissue settling may take longer.

We recommend scheduling treatment well in advance of important events to allow adequate recovery and assessment of the final result.

Does It Hurt?

Some discomfort should be expected during dermal filler injections.

Most patients describe the sensation as pressure, pinching or temporary stinging. Sensitivity varies depending on the treatment area and individual tolerance.

Comfort measures may include topical anaesthetic, local anaesthetic or products formulated with lidocaine when appropriate.

Your provider will discuss the available options and monitor your comfort throughout treatment.

When Will I See Results?

Volume changes are generally visible immediately following treatment.

However, the initial appearance is influenced by swelling, and the final result should not be assessed immediately after injection.

As swelling resolves and the tissues settle, the treated area will gradually take on its more established appearance.

We generally recommend allowing approximately two to four weeks before assessing the final aesthetic result, depending on the treatment area and product used.

How Long Do Results Last?

The duration of dermal filler results varies according to the product, treatment area, amount injected and individual factors.

Some hyaluronic acid fillers provide visible results for approximately 6–18 months, while certain products or treatment areas may have longer-lasting effects.

The visible cosmetic effect may diminish before all filler material has been absorbed. Residual filler can sometimes persist for years.

Repeat treatment should be based on clinical assessment rather than an automatic schedule.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Dissolved?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can often be broken down using an injectable enzyme called hyaluronidase.

This may be considered when correction is clinically indicated, including certain complications or unwanted results.

However, dissolving filler is a medical procedure with its own risks and limitations. The response can be unpredictable, multiple treatments may be required and complete reversal cannot be guaranteed.

What Should I Avoid Afterwards?

Following dermal filler treatment, avoid unnecessary pressure or massage of the treated areas unless specifically instructed by your provider.

Strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas and hot tubs may temporarily worsen swelling and should generally be avoided during the initial recovery period.

Avoid additional facial treatments or procedures until your provider confirms they are appropriate.

Do not independently discontinue prescribed medications, including blood thinners, to prepare for treatment.

Your provider will give you individualized aftercare instructions based on the product, treatment area and technique used.
